One nice thing about fedora is you can upgrade a running RH 8/9 system
to fedora, while keeping the box up and running and in service the whole
time, but if you can afford some downtime, a clean install is best.
Typically I save /etc, and then when doing the the clean install I tell
it to leave the /home partition alone, along with any other special
stuff like /opt or /usr/local if they are separate partitions. In an
upgrade, there is always a lot of cruft that has to be sorted out by
hand afterwards.
