Subject: Printer not working in Linux

Hi,
I just bought Samsung ML1710 Series Printer. I bought
this printer after carefully observing its
compatibility with Linux.
Samsung shipped the CDrom which includes a script for
linux. I installed the printer and the tool detects
the printer on the USB which is one.
ALso, my print manager detects the printer.
I have selected the postscript driver for the printer
which it shows in the parenthesis (is recommended).
However, whenever I try to print any document pdf, ps
or text the printer is idle.
It does not print anything. Also I did not modify any
entry in /etc/printcap

My printer supports linux printing since its on the linuxprinting.org
http://www.linuxprinting.org/printer_list.cgi
Samsung ML 1710

Any suggestions? tips? advises?

Thanks

It sounds like you have the same problem I did with a Ricoh. They support
RH9 but use the old LPRng system, which is not installed by default on RH9.
RH9 installs CUPS by default. You may need to install it, and use the
printer switching tool to switch over to LPRng to use the printer. I have
the Ricoh working that way, BUT, it doesn't seem to print from all apps,
where as CUPS does.
