Problems with Flash under Mozilla/Firefox/Opera

Problems with Flash under Mozilla/Firefox/Opera

2004-03-12       - By Pekka K. Kurki

HI folks,

I am getting desperate with flash - since many sites today have flash
navigation.

I had RH7.2 and Netscape 4.xx - the world was fine for flash - the
plugin worked OK.

Then I updated to RH9 and Mozilla 1.6, later then to Firefox (and
parallelly to Opera - latest version).

And Flash does not work..., Mozilla crashes whenever I display a page
with flash, so does Firefox.
Opera is nicer - it does not crash but it doesn't display the flash
either...

As to Mozilla/Firefox - I followed instructions at:

http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/faqs/flash.html

meaning: - I have the latest Flash version, I installed the
compat-libstdc++, I put the plugins in correct place

As to Opera I read in Opera Forum all related postings, I have the
openmotif installed, I corrected the backend names as suggested.

Now I have the feeling it is the flash plugin itself causing in my
configuration a problem - but what could it be? And before you ask:
There is an endless thread in bugzilla.mozilla.org - no results. And I
am not using graphicswise anything exotic like 15bit color depth (which
is supposed to crash flash plugin).

any ideas?

Pekkka
