Back Great point, sorry I hadn 't done that at first. However, I just ran up2date
and got the latest updated packages for all packages installed on my system.
The problem still persists...

First thing you need to do is update your system with the available
XFree86 errata packages. There were quite a few issues with the S3
driver in the original release from RH 9. It is possible the problem is
already fixed. If you still have the same issue after updating, then you
can continue to diagnose the problem further.
