You have selected medium firewall for ur system. Please change it to Nofirewall and then try again.
Also if ur connecting to internet from ur Linux machine have a look at http://tldp.org for firewall howtos. man iptables is a good place to start building good firewall. You're in Linux and for most of the problems u face u don't have to reboot/reinstall the machine(except for some).
