Help me fix my KDE vs Xfree86-4.4 problem

Help me fix my KDE vs Xfree86-4.4 problem

2004-06-19       - By Saravanan Balasubramanian

 Back
I have a RH7.3 which came with XFree86-4.2 version.
This did not detect my Intel 82845G video card. So I
upgraded my Xfree86-4.2 to 4.4 version and it detected
my video card and the resolution was fine. However,
now Kde doesnt work: start kde gives the following
error

xsetroot:  unable to open display ''
xset:  unable to open display ""
DCOPServer up and running.
kwin: cannot connect to X server
kpersonalizer: cannot connect to X server

But when I run rpm -q XFree86 it says Xfree86-4.2.0-8.

well does that mean my XFree86 was not upgraded to 4.4
(I installed it and only after that did my video card
get detected). How can I fix my KDE.Any help on this.

thanks,
saro
