  Interesting, but if you really don't want to keep those old logs
you'd be better off adjusting logrotate.  The default (in /etc/logrotate.conf)
is to cycle weekly and keep 4 week's worth.  You could either change
the "rotate 4" to something like "rotate 1", or add such a line to
/etc/logrotate.d/syslog that affects only the syslog generated files.

  These are messages waiting to be sent by sendmail.  If you have a
lot piling up it might be an indicator of a problem with your mail
system.  The "mailq" command will list each message ID and why it's
still sitting in the queue.  In most cases they'll eventually be
delivered or bounced back to the sender as undeliverable.
