ipchains / iptables

ipchains / iptables

Hi,

I have two RH9 systems - with a different system history. As I tried to
set up firewalls I saw that one system is running with ipchains and the
other one with iptables. I'd like to have both ones on iptables. But
when I try to run (on the system with ipchains) iptables --list I get a
bunch of nasty error messages like:

/lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_tables.o:
init_module: Device or resource busy
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters,
including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
/lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_tables.o: insmod
/lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_tables.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_tables.o: insmod
ip_tables failed
iptables v1.2.7a: can't initialize iptables table `filter': iptables
who? (do you need to insmod?)
Perhaps iptables or your kernel needs to be upgraded.

How can I switch to iptables safely? dmesg or syslog gave no further
hints...

br,
Pekka
