Understand....lets say there's only one file I wish only read access
to,I don't want them logging on as me, can I create a separate log on, &
give them read only access to this one file?.

Rgds.

If by "all files on the box" you mean system files and the lot, the
short answer is that you can't and you probably wouldn't really want to.

To get an understanding of the UN*X file permission model, have a look
at the manpage for "chmod" by typing "man chmod" at the command prompt.

However, if you mean within a certain file area, like you want to use
your linux box as a file server then I'd look at Samba if I were you.
Samba lets your linux box emulate a Windos server, and shares can be set
up with read/write or read-only permissions based on the user name.

See www.samba.org for more information, the RPMs are included with RH
Linux but you might want to go with a slightly newer version :-)

Hope this helps,
