Hi Michael
Thanks for the quick answer.
I then learned something about patch'ing and the usage of rpm.
There where only 4 packages in i686(Kernel x 2, glibc, openssl).

It does. rpm --query --all --qf "%{name}-%{version} is %{arch}\n"
Of course, you can also query files and individual packages.

You can mix it, but in most cases there is no noticable performance
gain in replacing the default packages with i686 versions. Important
system packages like the C library are available as optimized versions
anyway, and the other packages are i386 compatible but optimized for
i686.

That probably refers to downgrading glibc. You should not do that.
