using up2date with kickstart 2004-10-14 - By Ken Snider
Back Greetings,
We 're currently using both an internal yum repository, and RHN to maintain our
servers.
Until now, we 've employed a rebuild of Fedora 's yum for the repository, and
used up2date for RHN. However, we 've recently become aware of a (recently
repaired) ability for up2date to speak to yum repositories, even in RHEL. As a
result, we obviously want to stop maintaining an RHEL build of yum, and use
up2date exclusively.
This works great for boxes that are already registered with RHN; however
calling "up2date " as part of the %post section for kickstart installs is a
problem, because the system is obviously not registered, and as a result wants
interactivity.
Now, I know about rhnreg_ks, however we do not have management entitlements
for our 60 servers, only basic, so that 's not an option. Moreover, I don 't
necessairily want to contact rhn for the updates, but just our own yum
repository initially.
However, we cannot seem to have up2date start the first time
non-interactively, even if we disable the default rhn source in
/etc/sysconfig/rhn/sources.
Anyone have any suggestions as to how we can accomplish this task?
