  | | | Moving /var to larger disk | Moving /var to larger disk 2004-10-15 - By James Marcinek
Back Hello All,
I 'm preparing to move my /var partition to a larger disk and I wanted to be sure
that I 've thought it all through.
1. Create the partion
2. Create the filesystem
3. Mount the new filesystem to a temporary location (eg. /tmp/var)
4. cp -rp the /var to the /tmp/var
5. Modify /etc/fstab to now point to the new /var
The filesystem has been 'labeled ' (via e2label or however Red Hat initially
assigns the labels... So I have to change the label to point to the new file
system. How should I go about this? (Remove the /var label from the old
partition and then assign it to the new or vice a versa or it doesn 't matter).
I think that will cover it. If I missed anything else, let me know.
Thanks,
James
