Back If you 're like me, you like Mozilla (as a browser) and Evolution (as a mail client) but you dislike the fact that they are "disconnected ", i.e. if you click on a mailto: link in Mozilla it doesn 't launch Evolution, here 's a solution.
1. Upgrade to Mozilla-1.4 Get the mozilla-1.4 source RPM from a Rawhide mirror. Or just use
http://rawhide.redhat.com/
Rebuild it (rpmbuild --rebuild mozilla....). This can be a very lenghty process, just have patience and let it run. Install the resulting binaries.
1b. Optionally upgrade to Evolution-1.4 Packages are here:
http://people.redhat.com/~katzj/evolution/
2. Install the Mozex extension in Mozilla Go to
http://mozex.mozdev.org/
and install the extension. Read the instructions! (you must run Mozilla as root when installing; then run it again once as root after installing Mozex then close it immediately; after that Mozex is fully installed and you can run Mozilla as your normal user as before)
3. Configure Mozex to use Evolution for e-mail Go to the Mozilla configuration (Edit / Preferences), search for the new Mozex entry in the list, select the "Intercept mailto: links " checkbox. Then add this string to the "Mailer command " entry:
/usr/bin/evolution mailto:%a?subject=%s
No need to add double quotes around %s, Mozex is smart. ;-)
That 's it. Mozex doesn 't seem to run with Mozilla-1.2.1 (the Red Hat 9 default) and i didn 't test this method with Evolution-1.2 (the Red Hat 9 default).
