tomcat5 and JAVA_HOME

tomcat5 and JAVA_HOME

2004-10-21       - By Jurvis LaSalle

 Back
greetings all,

I subscribed to several rhn rhel as v3 beta channels and issued an
'up2date install tomcat5 '. 'sudo /etc/init.d/tomcat5 start ' spit out
errors initially about an improperly set $JAVA_HOME. Sure enough,
/etc/tomcat5/conf/tomcat5.conf sets JAVA_HOME= "/usr/lib/jvm/java ".
There is no such directory. I read up about /etc/alternatives and
changed the line to JAVA_HOME= "/etc/alternatives/jre ". This got tomcat
farther along in starting, but it still cannot find all the jars. It
chokes trying to find [jdbc-stdext].jar. Is this why this rpm is in
the beta channel? Have I done something wrong?

What is the proper setting for JAVA_HOME given that I 've installed
java-1.4.2-ibm-1.4.2.0-1jpp_12rh rpm? Is there a better list for
ironing out a rhel3 beta rpm installation of tomcat5? thanks for your
time.

Jurvis LaSalle
