Just a guess, but try ethtool to verify the settings match up on the
adapter and switch. A lot of times the switch is set to 100 full, but the
adapter only auto-negotiates to only 100 half. If you have the ability to
examine errors on the port the machine is connected to, use it to see if
you are getting lot of errors on the port. You many need to manually set
the port on the switch to autoneg, or to 100 full, and then adjust
settings via ethtool appropriately.
Running ethtool, by itself shows you what the adapter is set to, as so:
# ethtool eth0
