Vsftpd

I 'm trying to set up vsftp to allow suppliers to upload larger files to the
server here as opposed to emailing them.
I 've been going through the man pages and the online doc for vsftp, and I
don 't want to allow anonymous uploads, not do I want user accounts for this.

I 've set my /etc/vsftpd.user_list to include the 5 accounts that I 'll need,
but I can 't find anywhere to create passwords for this.

Am I on the right track setting this up this way? Or do I need to create
local accounts for them, and then set the option to deny the local user
accounts to that they don 't get access to their home directories?

Thanks.
