strange samba behavior

strange samba behavior

I 'm making some files avvessible via Samba to be backed up. if I have
directory that ends in a dot ( tempdir. ) then it shows up as
TB5AMV~R in windows. Everything else seems to be fine including long
file names and hidden .hideme type files.

I 'm by no means a samba expert. Any ideas?
