Hello,
Yesterday I played around with transfering data from my digital camera (HP
Photosmart 735) set as USB hard drive. I could mount it as /dev/sda1 just
fine many times, and I kept plugging the USB, mount it, transfer file,
unmount it, un-plug the USB. It worked fine for a while until at some point
it sorta crashed / hung the kernel. I plugged it in, then I quickly (maybe to
quick) type "mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/digicam ". Then that command just hung
there. I can ping the machine from another machine, but SSH to the machine
didn 't work. CTRL-ALT-DEL didn 't work either. The only I could do was to ping
it. I waited for over 2 hours (hoping some IO error would time out) before I
decided to push the reset button, as can be seen from the log below.
Included is the log when this happens, as you can see at the very last line
there 's a gap when the system just hung, until I hit the reset button at
around 14.35.
I believe this should not happen. The kernel should be able to deal with this
kind of situation (whatever it is). But I 'm not knowledgeable enough to know
why this happens. Should I file it as a real bug in bugzilla? If I could
reproduce this, what should I do to generate better log when the system is
sorta hung / non-responsive? Any comment or help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
