I am trying to install the 2.4.28 kernel from kernel.org on RedHat ES
3.0.

I need the new kernel to resolve SCSI issues that are affecting tape
operations on my server.

I followed the upgrade instructions documented at
http://www.linuxtapecert.org/kernel.html.

When I reboot with the new kernel X fails to start.  The error message I
get is:

OS Kernel: Linux version 2.4.28 (root@(protected)) (gcc version 3.2.3
20030502 (Red
Hat Linux 3.2.3-42)) #2 SMP Fri Dec 3 08:31:20 EST 2004
Markers: (--) probed, (**) from config file, (==) default setting,
        (++) from command line, (!!) notice, (II) informational,
        (WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown.
(==) Log file: "/var/log/XFree86.0.log", Time: Fri Dec  3 09:39:41 2004
(==) Using config file: "/etc/X11/XF86Config"
XIO:  fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0"
     after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining.

When I try to run redhat-config-xfree86 I get the following error:

GThread-ERROR **: file gthread-posix.c: line 135 (): error 'No such
process' dur
ing 'pthread_getschedparam (pthread_self(), &policy, &sched)'

>From what I have been able to find the problem seems to be related to
NPTL thread support, or lack thereof in the kernels from kernel.org.  I
have not been able to find a solution to this problem.

Can anyone shed any light on how to fix this problem?

Thank you.
