netdump-server and client setup across subnets

netdump-server and client setup across subnets

Hi list,

I am trying to setup a central netdump-server and configure rhel3.0/2.1
clients scattered in different subnets. The whitepaper at
http://www.redhat.com/support/wpapers/redhat/netdump/ states:

"The hardware address (macaddr) of the netdump server or first-hop
router is stored when the IP address is looked up at the time the module
is inserted. This helps prevent spoof attacks, and simplifies the
network crash dump client code."

This does not happen as it does to do arping on the netdump-server, and
if it is a subnet apart like ours, arp requests won't get across.

Bugzilla has an open bug in this regard. (90803) (see
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=90803 )

I want to clear /etc/init.d/netdump of the arping with normal ping per
Allen's feedback, but before that, I wanted to hear from anybody with
netdump-server and clients apart subnets/routers.

thanks  in advance,

--AM
