kernel-smp-2.4.21-20.0.1.EL and aic7xxx

Hi there,

I'm upgrading some Dell PowerEdge 2650s from kernel-smp-2.4.21-20.EL to
kernel-smp-2.4.21-20.0.1.EL. I have a few to upgrade, but the first one
I'm trying isn't working. On booting to the new kernel, it can't find
the aic7xxx driver, and hence can't find the HD partition with
"LABEL=/". Kernel panic ensues. Rebooting to the older kernel is still fine.

Here's the machine's /etc/modules.conf file:
alias eth0 tg3
alias eth1 tg3
#alias scsi_hostadapter aacraid
alias scsi_hostadapter aic7xxx
alias usb-controller usb-ohci

(The commented-out aacraid entry was from when we built a custom aacraid
driver, due to the much-documented PERC3/Di problems of the previous
year. We've been using the stock aic7xxx driver for while, though.)

I also note this:

[root@(protected) /lib/modules]# find 2.4.21-20.ELsmp -name aic*
2.4.21-20.ELsmp/kernel/drivers/scsi/aic7xxx
2.4.21-20.ELsmp/kernel/drivers/scsi/aic7xxx/aic79xx.o
2.4.21-20.ELsmp/kernel/drivers/scsi/aic7xxx/aic7xxx.o
2.4.21-20.ELsmp/kernel/drivers/scsi/aic7xxx_old.o
[root@(protected) /lib/modules]# find 2.4.21-20.0.1.ELsmp -name aic*
2.4.21-20.0.1.ELsmp/kernel/drivers/scsi/aic7xxx
2.4.21-20.0.1.ELsmp/kernel/drivers/scsi/aic7xxx/aic79xx.o
2.4.21-20.0.1.ELsmp/kernel/drivers/scsi/aic7xxx/aic7xxx.o
2.4.21-20.0.1.ELsmp/kernel/drivers/scsi/aic7xxx_old.o

Can anyone suggest what might be happening?

Thanks,
Guy.
