Back Hi there,
We have installed RHEL-AS3 Update 3 for x86_64 on a couple of Dell PowerEdge 1850s, and are currently updating to the latest updates.
I see that the default kernel the Update 3 installer has put on the boxes is kernel-2.4.21-20.EL.ia32e. We're about to update to the latest errata kernel (2.4.21-20.0.1), but given that the machines have 2 x CPUs, should we not upgrade to the kernel-smp-2.4.21-20.0.1.EL.x86_64 kernel, rather than the kernel-2.4.21-20.0.1.EL.ia32e kernel?
I guess this raises the question 'what is the difference between the [non-SMP] ia32e kernel and the [SMP] x86_64 kernel'?
Thanks in advance, Guy.
