  | | | Possible exploit, or a normal result of upgrading to update 4? | Possible exploit, or a normal result of upgrading to update 4? 2004-12-22 - By Richard R. Danielson
Back I had four entries in my secure.log entry tonight:
......userdel[5220]: delete user `named' ......userdel[5220]: remove group `named' ......groupadd[5229]: new group: name=named, gid=25 ......useradd[5230]: new user: name=named, uid=25, gid=25, home=/var/named, shell=/sbin/nologin
This happened sometime about the same time as my successful (finally!) upgrade to update 4. I had been trying for the past day to complete the upgrade and it wasn't until the full file list was available that I could complete the procedure.
Is this activity with the 'named' user and group a normal occurrence related to the update? If not, does anyone have advice as to what happened and what I should do to fix things? Thanks in advance. Rick Danielson
