rtc: lost some interrupts ....

rtc: lost some interrupts ....

2005-01-14       - By Don Buchholz

 Back

I've got 4 systems which keep printing this message in the log file:

Jan 11 01:08:08 tssu3 kernel: rtc: lost some interrupts at 1024Hz.

All are running RHEL-3/U4+ kernel [2.4.21-27.0.1.ELsmp].  None of these
messages were seen in the previous configuration [2.4.21-15.0.2.ELsmp].

In addition, there are 16 more systems running the RHEL-3/U4+ kernel
(13 SMP [2.4.21-27.0.1.ELsmp] and 3 uniproc [2.4.21-27.0.1.EL])  which
also do not complain about lost interrupts.

Questions:
-- ---- --
1) What, exactly, does it mean when the real-time clock loses an
  interrupt?

2) ... and the implications on applications and/or system stability
  and performance?
