I didn't say it has to be full duplex, only that the switch should support
full duplex.  A 100mb switch should have no problem supporting a 10mb full
duplex connecting.  But again, this is in theory, some vendors may managed
to break this with their hardware.  He may wish to try setting it to
10mb/half and see if it resolves the issue although I'd recommend turning
off hardware tcp offloading or swapping out the NIC before slowing down
the connection.
