Anyone has IBM HS20 Blades with copper pass-thru module?

Anyone has IBM HS20 Blades with copper pass-thru module?

Hi,

We have quite a bit of IBM HS20 Blades.
BladeCentre basically has one Dlink switch, which is shared among all Blades
in the chassis.
This is not good for some of our server which have different requirements,
so we had to buy a copper pass-thru module, which allows direct 1gbit
network connection for each Blade.

I was wondering if anyone is experiencing problems with this setup (if you
have it, that is - copper pass-thru module is a pretty new thing).

Old kernel, 2.4.21-20.0.1.Elsmp seems to carry with it an older version of
tg3 module, which is used in this setup. This version is tg3.c:v3.6RH (June
12, 2004). This driver didn't work perfect either - if someone unplugged the
network cable and plugged it back, the machine didn't detect network
properly and network had to be restarted.

I went with the upgrade to 2.4.21-27.0.2.Elsmp which was a complete disaster
this time: network doesn't work at all.
I logged this bug at
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/beta/show_bug.cgi?id=146332, but didn't have any
feedback yet.

With this new kernel I get the following:

Boot log:

Jan 27 15:38:58 cerberus1 kernel: tg3.c:v3.10RH (September 14, 2004)
Jan 27 15:38:58 cerberus1 kernel: eth0: Tigon3 [partno(BCM95704A41)
rev 2002 PHY(serdes)] (PCIX:133MHz:64-bit) 10/100/1000BaseT Ethernet 0
0:09:6b:b5:38:c2
Jan 27 15:38:58 cerberus1 kernel: eth0: RXcsums[1] LinkChgREG[0]
MIirq[0] ASF[0] Split[0] WireSpeed[1] TSOcap[0]

After the system is up:

Jan 27 15:39:07 cerberus1 kernel: tg3: eth0: Link is down.
Jan 27 15:39:09 cerberus1 kernel: tg3: eth0: Link is up at 1000 Mbps,
full duplex.
Jan 27 15:39:09 cerberus1 kernel: tg3: eth0: Flow control is off for
TX and off for RX.
Jan 27 15:39:10 cerberus1 kernel: tg3: eth0: Link is down.
Jan 27 15:39:12 cerberus1 kernel: tg3: eth0: Link is up at 1000 Mbps,
full duplex.
Jan 27 15:39:12 cerberus1 kernel: tg3: eth0: Flow control is off for
TX and off for RX.
Jan 27 15:39:13 cerberus1 kernel: tg3: eth0: Link is down.
Jan 27 15:39:15 cerberus1 kernel: tg3: eth0: Link is up at 1000 Mbps,
full duplex.
Jan 27 15:39:15 cerberus1 kernel: tg3: eth0: Flow control is off for
TX and off for RX.
Jan 27 15:39:16 cerberus1 kernel: tg3: eth0: Link is down.
Jan 27 15:39:18 cerberus1 kernel: tg3: eth0: Link is up at 1000 Mbps,
full duplex.
Jan 27 15:39:18 cerberus1 kernel: tg3: eth0: Flow control is off for
TX and off for RX.

Now .. If someone can share ideas of what to do it would be great.
If I manually compile old driver and put it with the new kernel, am I
loosing support?

Thanks,

Bojan
