Back Hi all,
i have an application running, that receives data via network sockets and collects data via ftp (this is also only socket communication). The data collection is done by different threads. When i put a large file on the ftp server, the application stops receiving data via the other sockets, until the ftp thread has downloaded the complete large file. This could take several minutes, where the other threads are ready to run, but don't get scheduled.
On RH 8.0 (kernel-2.4.20-28.8) the application works without problems.
After that, i tried to run the test_starve program from http://www.hpl.hp.com/research/linux/kernel/o1-starve.php and, ... it starves.
On original RH8.0 the test_starve also starved, but that was fixed with an kernel update (2.4.20-24 i think) Why is the same bug included in an expensive mission critical linux distribution like RHES, that was delivered long after the bug had been fixed in the cheap nonprofessional releases of RH (like RH 8.0)? But that's not the question, at the moment the question is:
Is there's anyone else experiencing problems with the process- and/or I/O -scheduler on RHES3?
