  | | | Central Syslog Server Setup | Central Syslog Server Setup 2005-02-04 - By Celal Unalp
Back Hello, We have 16 linux and 6 HP-UX servers generating thousands of lines syslog messages per a day. I want to collect all syslog messages from these servers to a central syslog server and store them in seperate files for detailed analysis. I want to use on-the-fly "tail -f" style tracking over log files.
For example :
Syslog messages from server "host01" > /var/log/messages.host1 Syslog messages from server "host02" > /var/log/messages.host2
What is the "Generally Accepted and Recommended" method for this task? Which syslog daemon and/or log analyser should I use?
I have these utilities from RHELAS3U4 official distribution packages :
logrotate-3.6.9-1.i386.rpm logwatch-4.3.2-2.noarch.rpm redhat-logviewer-0.9.3-5.noarch.rpm sysklogd-1.4.1-12.1.i386.rpm
Are these sufficient?
Thanx in advance.
