The probably did the install their way.  I'm not sure of a fix.  If you
do a fresh install from Redhat Media, it should work the way it's
supposed to.

With a properly working redhat installation, to add a package, it's
sometimes as simple as:

up2date package

where package is what you want to install.

To install Apache, all you would need to do is:
up2date httpd
It will install the needed dependencies.


there's a showall option to up2date, what I usually do is run 'up2date
-showall' and redirect to a file.  You can then browser through the file
whenever you are curious about a package.  You could also do 'up2date
-showall | less'
