mutt locking

mutt locking

With RedHat setting permissions on /var/spool/mail to 0775 root:mail,
how does the mutt 1.4 package lock files in the spool without
mutt_dotlock?

I looked at the patch used in the RPM[1], and it looks to my untrained
eye as if they're just taking out the checks entirely. I don't see any
evidence that it uses /usr/bin/lockfile or anything that /is/ setgid
mail. Is it just relying on fcntl locking (and will this work)?

Also, if procmail is used as the LDA for the RH install of Sendmail,
does it need to be sgid in order to deliver mail safely (and without
lock failure warnings)?
