Strange up2date of kernel issue

Strange up2date of kernel issue

I've just run up2date on a dual processor Opteron (Sun V20z) running
RHEL EW3 U4 and I've set it to update the kernel in my up2date
configs.  This is fine, except it is modifying my grub.conf
incorrectly - setting the non-SMP kernel first and keeping the boot
order the same - the result - the Opteron isn't firing off all
cylinders!

This isn't a one off neither.

Currently downloaded is  2.4.21-27.0.2.EL and the SMP equivalent.

The easy solution is to not install the Uni-processor kernel in the
first place - but what is concerning is that it is getting the boot
order wrong when the original RHEL EW3 Update 4.

Anybody else encountered this?
