  | | | Sun V20z and kernel-smp? | Sun V20z and kernel-smp? 2005-03-10 - By Brian Long
Back Hello,
I'm wondering why Anaconda fails to install kernel-smp in certain cases. I've seen other threads about certain BIOS or DMI information being incorrect and Anaconda will fail to detect an SMP system.
When I load the Sun V20z from a DOS partition with LOADLIN, etc. Anaconda fails to install kernel-smp. If I have an already running machine and put the installation kernel and initrd into GRUB to re-kickstart the machine, the kernel-smp is installed.
When using the LOADLIN method on other SMP Opterons and Xeons, kernel-smp installs just fine.
Does anyone have an idea of what exactly I need to get fixed in the Sun V20z BIOS or DMI to get this working? Unfortunately, our PXE installation method is Altiris-based and in order to install Linux, it deploys a small C: partition, copies down LOADLIN, VMLINUZ and INITRD, AUTOEXEC.BAT, etc and then reboots the machine from that C: partition.
Thanks for any pointers.
