  | | | RHEL v3 to RHEL v4 SNAFUs (laus, microcode_ctl, networking) | RHEL v3 to RHEL v4 SNAFUs (laus, microcode_ctl, networking) 2005-03-18 - By Lee Whatley, Contractor
Back Hello,
I recently upgraded a test machine from RHEL WS v3 to RHEL WS v4. Everything seems to be working great except for three issues. Has anyone else experienced these?
LAUS: It appears that a LAUS packake does not exist for RHEL v4 even though the release notes do not say that this package was removed/depreciated. The upgrade left the old laus packages from RHEL v3 installed, but the audit service won't start and complains that the kernel does not have audit support. There is an "audit" rpm included with RHEL v4, but trying to install this conflicts with the old laus package that was left on the system after the upgrade. If I run "rpm -e laus" I can then install the audit package, but now there is not an audit service listed in /etc/init.d/ and aucat and augrep have been removed.
microcode_ctl: The first service that started under RHEL v3 (S00_microcode_ctl) now fails. It generates the error "microcode device /dev/cpu/0/microcode doesn't exist?" An rpm -qf shows that this service belongs to the kernel-utils-2.4-13.1.48 package which was installed as part of the upgrade.
networking: When the network is brought up or down I get the following messages - error: unknown error 22 reading key 'net.ipv6.route.flush' error: unknown error 22 reading key 'net.ipv4.route.flush' error: unknown error 22 reading key 'fs.binfmt_misc.register' error: unknown error 22 reading key 'net.ipv6.route.flush' error: unknown error 22 reading key 'net.ipv4.route.flush' error: unknown error 22 reading key 'fs.binfmt_misc.register'
The network interfaces (eth0 and lo) seem to work fine though.
I couldn't find anything about these problems in Bugzilla, so unless someone else on the list has also experienced these problems and already has a workaround, I plan on filing bugs for these today.
Thanks, -Lee
