First of all, you need to know what U4 really is - it's just U2 with a
bunch of rpm updates.  Nothing fancy - no new binary incompatible pieces
of software.  It's mostly just patches.

Can you be tied to RHN to get the list of updates you need?  If you can,
then the problem is fairly simple.  Expand your U4 ISOs and put the rpms
on an NFS-mounted server.  Then use up2date with the --packagedir
argument to point to your local rpms first.  A simple up2date -uf will
get everything you need. Don't forget that there are updates beyond U4.

The key thing is to come up with the list of updates you need for each
machine.  Once you've determined that, a simple rpm -Fvh should get them
all - make sure the architectures are right though!

It might be worthwhile logging a call with support...

There should be no binary incompabilities so unless you've created one
with your rpms, you should be fine.  We can't tell if one of your rpms
has a dependency of a specific version of a specific package.  If it
does, then rpm should fail to install the update.
