How LINUX assign SAN driver number?

I have several DELL server with Qlogic HBA cards  on
it.  Every server since have different  SAN driver
number.  For example some server SAN drive start on
/dev/sdd and some server start on /dev/sde.  The local
disks on DELL server are the same why SAN drive
numbert different?


The O.S. we have are AS 3.0 and 2.1.
