You need to add the option:
Option "CIOverlay"
In your device section (for nvidia cards, with the nvidia driver
from nvidia.com anyway...) and restart X.
Once you do this, and run xdpyinfo, you should see
class: PseudoColor , which isn't there without this option.
Then test your waver module, it should behave as expected.
