I use up2date for all of my RHEL systems for all patches, including the
kernel upgrades.  up2date does the right thing in installing the new
kernel and upgrading the other packages.

That's why we have support from Red Hat - they've got the kernel gurus
that determine whether or not the patch is appropriate and what it will
break (if anything).
