Would it carry too far to elaborate on this? What kind of problems would that give?
In order to build 32 bit applications on 64 bit machines, we have been installing several packages from the 32 bit distribution on our 64 bit machines. Mostly, but not only, -devel packages.
Occasionally there are conflicts. The two packages both install a file in /usr/bin for example. In those cases we have made special versions of the 32 bit package.
But as long as you fulfill all RPM requirements of the packages you install, what would be expected to break if you mix the 32 and 64 bit distributions? Obviously, you need the 64 bit kernel before the 64 bit glibc, the 64 bit glibc before 64 bit coreutils.
