High load average but nothing going on????

High load average but nothing going on????

Hi,

I have a Dell PE2650 running RHAS 3.0 u4 (2.4.21-9.0.1.ELsmp) and it
seems to be exhibiting the behaviour of showing a high load average
(circa 7) when a vmstat shows nothing going on. ie nothing in the run
queue or blocked queue and no IO and no processing on the CPU.

What is going on here - I cannot see why the load average
(cat /proc/loadaverage and top) is so high?

Thanks in advance

Regards

Gary Mansell
