Back Hi!
I've recently suffered some problems related to KDE sessions that are not properly closed. Some kdeinit processes remain in memory, and generate cores without pause. As a result, the filesystem that gets the core files fills to 100%, and in some cases the machine crashes.
We mount the home directory for most users from an nfs server, and the core files usually end in the home directory of the affected user. As the home filesystem fills up to 100%, no user can log in in any machine, and they can't work propperly.
First of all, I don't know why the kde sessions do not close propperly. For example, yesterday we suffered network problems which explained the abnormal logouts, but usually this is not the case. May the poblems be nfs related?
What logs can I look to check if KDE gives any information when this problem occurs? The home directory for these users is in a Solaris 6 machine, so I see several hidden directories, shuch as $HOME/.dt, $HOME/.gnome, $HOME/.kde, etc. Some of these directories may refer to the solaris CDE sessions, and some of them may refer to de RHEL KDE sessions.
Is there any way to check for KDE processes that are "wrong", and kill them (ie, in a cron job)?.
Thank you very much.
Regards,
Carlos Ortega Gonz?lez
