Fred,
  Yes, I removed the files from the NFS server. etab  and  xtab are
re-created during the NFS server initialisation and keep the runtime
state
information for the NFS exports. The most likely file to be causing the
problem in this case is  rmtab  which maintains remote client state
information. This will be re-created when the first client connects to
the
server.
