the command:
[root@(protected) sysconfig]#route -n

should show what routes are loaded

is my impresion but the smb messages is just after the
the loading of the net kernel module
that is wear, is it?
no other services up before the network mounting ?

another thing: sometimes, the messages "No route to
host" hide a firewall problem, maybe is not your case
but maybe it is

I think it is not a good idea to move the "start id"
of "services"

in my system:

08 -> iptables (firewall problems)
10 -> network (interfases and routes)
25 -> netfs (fstab network filesystems: smb for
example)
