I am having a problem reliably using USB memory devices under:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS release 4 (Nahant Update 1)
I see that there a bugzilla report (136467) for this problem under FC3, opened October 2004. Here is what I've found under RHEL 4 WS:
- Do _not_ have a Nautilus window open: - Insert a LEXAR JumpDrive into a USB slot. The device mounts to: /media/LEXAR_MEDIA and displays an icon on the desktop. Do _not_ view this device via Nautilus. Remove the device without umounting it. I can no longer mount the device without rebooting the computer. - Insert a LEXAR JumpDrive into a USB slot. The device mounts to: /media/LEXAR_MEDIA and displays an icon on the desktop. Do _not_ view this device via Nautilus. Umount the device via the command line and remove it. Reinsert the device into a USB slot (it doesn't matter which one). I can no longer mount the device without rebooting the computer. - Insert a LEXAR JumpDrive into a USB slot. The device mounts to: /media/LEXAR_MEDIA and displays an icon on the desktop. Do _not_ view this device via Nautilus. Umount the device via the icon's right-click menu and remove it. Reinsert the device into a USB slot (it doesn't matter which one). I can no longer mount the device without rebooting the computer.
There are similar problems when Nautilus is open, but the user must log out to trigger the error. Has anyone else seen this under RHEL 4?
