Hi All,

I am currently running RHEL on my desktop primarily because the tools
(EDA) that I use are supported by the vendor only on RHEL (as far as
Linux is concerned).

To satisfy my need to run the latest KDE/GNOME/Evolution etc, I have
been using konstruct and garnome to compile them from source and install
them whereever I want that doesn't need root privileges. This process in
itself is painful. Although konstruct and garnome are great compile
scripts, they don't ever work out of the box. I always have to fix
little things everytime I use them.

Is anybody aware of a fink-like or portage-like or any-other-fancy-new
distribution system that can augment the way packages/applications are
installed ? What would/do you, other RHEL users, do or use ?

Thanks
