We use heartbeat to provide redundancy on a 'router' system that replaced our Cisco router. It consists of 2 identical machines, each with 6 interfaces active. One of those interfaces is the heartbeat and it also is connected by serial cable to the other machine. It works well. -- Tim Edwards
