Many dropped packages from iptables report

Many dropped packages from iptables report

Hello,
I am sorry if this is OT, but I am just wondering if someone can give me
suggestion or experiencing the same thing.

It seems that the size of the logwatch email sent to me from our webserver
keeps growing up. In the last couple days they have been in the 3-4MB range.
Most of it is the log from a drop package by iptables (I am using shorewall
to run iptable). Is this normal ?  The size of my /var/log/messages for
today, for example, is 160MB.

I haven't been able to pinpoint exactly what or which IP / network caused a
lot of the DROP package, except that the cumulative thing itself. I get
around 150000 drop packages per day in the last couple days. For a website
that gets about 270000 hits per day, is this normal ?

Thank you for any help or comments.
