OK, more questions:
1. You are using Printconf (the Redhat Print Config tool) to configure the printer? 2. Do you have other printers setup on the linux system? 3. Can you ping the IP address of the printer from your Linux system? 4. When exactly do you get the error?
I know, this isn't much help yet, but right now I'm trying to understand your setup as well as possible. Setting up a HP JetDirect is typically pretty simple, and should work, so we need to understand if there is anything unusual about your setup or the steps you are using to get there.
Later, Tom
1. I am using the gnome version of Printconf (assume it is that, because it is right off the printer icon on the bottom of the gui desktop). 2. I don't have any other printers configured on the system. 3. I can ping my own machine, but can't get a response from the printer. Maybe my problem is also related to my firewall. Right now, it is configured to give public access to ssh, www, ssl web and xwindows. I haven't enabled public access to samba/netbios. 4. I get the error whenever I try to install the printer.
