Just did one of these myself (granted on x86_64) and it completed just fine and nothing was changed with the httpd chkconfig level. Prior to the update what levels did you have httpd enabled in? Also, anything in /var/log/up2date to suggest something weird happening (I don't suspect so but just checking.)
