RHEL3 Update 5 on Dell 2650

RHEL3 Update 5 on Dell 2650

Hi.  We just started installing Update 5 on some of our older Dell 2650 servers
.  They're dual 2.8GHz Xeons, 2GB Ram.  We immediately noticed bad NFS behaviour
.  I can mount NFS directories and cd into them but I can't ls them. If the
mount was made with "soft" parameter it will time out with an I/O error after a
few minutes.  If "hard" it never returns and the process cannot be killed.  The
install was made with kickstart and the package list and config is identical to
other boxes (Dell 1425's) that work perfectly.  Albeit those are 64 bit except
one on 32 bit at Update 4.  It's not the network, all the mounts work perfectly
from an adjacent box running RedHat 9.  We put the HD in another 2650 and it
did the same thing so that can rule out a unique hardware failure.  We did
upgrade the autofs package to the latest .154 version to address bugs but it
did the same thing before and after.  The box has the CIFS module installed
which was custom compiled for that box.  The only t
hing I can think of is that there's some incompatibility between the 2650 and
RHEL3 U5.

Has anyone experienced anything like this with Update 5 or otherwise?  Any
ideas on what the problem could be?  Bad NIC driver?  Thanks.
