Back Harry:
The 'rootnoverify' means for the system to "Set GRUB's root device without mounting it". This is used when the OS being loaded is outside the area of the disk that GRUB can read, but setting the correct 'root' device is still desired.
The "chainloader +1" means for GRUB to load the first sector of the current partition as the boot loader.
